Several months ago a, company was formed for the purpose of establishing a second picture theatre in Core. Objections to tile scheme* were lodged by llie proprietor of the existing theatre, and ihe matter was the subject of a magisterial inquiry. The recommendation ot the magistrate has been forwarded to the Minister of Industries and Commerce for submission to the Cabinet. Amusement, was caused in tlie Te Awamutu Magistrate’s Court when a middle-aged Maori appeared on a judgment summons before Mr. F. 11. Levicn. S.M. Questioned by counsel representing the creditor, defendant said he was a farmer and had 17 children and 15 cows “That’s, about a cow a child,” replied counsel. 1 “How many acres have you?” Defendant said he had 119. “That’s seven acres a child,” remarked Ihe magistrate,. amid' laughter.
