TOURISTS COMING
AUSTRALIANS INQUIRE GOOD SEASON EXPECTED "We arc looking forward to a good tourist .season in New Zealand this year," said Mr.. L. .1. Sclmiitt, Government Trade and Tourist Commissioner in Australia, who arrived at Auckland front Sydney by the Wanganella. "According to the increased number of inquiries received in the past two months from prospective visitors to New Zealand 1 should think that large numbers of Australians may reasonably be expected to spend their next holidays in the Dominion." "Australia is now enjoying much improved economy," said Mr. Schmitt. "Of course much has still to be accomplished before the situation is normal. The recent rains have gladdened the hearts of farmers and have assured a Rood season where only a few weeks ago drought and disaster were greatly feared. "One of the most, helpful factors toward an improvement is the confidence that Australians have in their own country. This results in increased internal expenditure with corresponding additional turnover and consequent improvement, in business generally. One must admire, the Australian for his optimism and his strong spirit of progress."
