The Palmerston North Hospital P.oard has accepted the tender of a Wellington firm of contractors for the civet ion of an administration block at the institution, and additions to the Old l'eopic's Home at Awaptmi, at a. total cost of 1)17.178. The tender was £8779 for the administration block, and £8390 for the Awapuni additions. The manag-ing-secretary, Mr A. J. Phillips, recalled' that £1.1,500 had been raised for the work. Iml the tender was approximately £6OCO higher. This increase had been brought about by certain changes in the 'specifications', which would make the buildings suitable to withstand n major earthcpiake.
