E. iTnney as Admin- j| istrator and Chief Magistrate has been,.., extended for one year from next Monday. J. he Minister in charge pf the Territory, Senator gir George ir'earce, explained to-day that one of the alterations proposed was .the separation of the ofhee of Administrator from that of chief Magistrate and for the appointment of a, stipendiary magistrate to visit the island as required. Local residents were also to be appointed honorary justices of the peace, with summary jurisdiction in minor cases. Draft amendments of the laws of the territory involved were now being prepared for submission to the Advisory Council which would be established on August 1, he added. An election to appoint an Advisory Council of eight members is to lie held on July 31. The president of the council is to receive a salary of £3O a year. Members are to hold office for one year or two years, according to the circumstances of their election. Elections are to be held annually.
