(Received Julv lli, 2 p.m.) LONDON, July 15. j In the course of his statement in the House of Commons, Mr Walter Elliot: said that he should like to state very; ideally that he had found during the negotiations a strong general appro-; ciation of the fact that disorderly con- 1 signing to the United Kingdom meat market brought nothing but ruin to; overseas producers. He regarded the arrangements outlined as definite steps, towards a regulated market, but they would not by themselves solve the.; problems of the United Kingdom eattlej imlustrv. A solujion by either a|; straight tariff or quota cuts alone would involve tremendous interference with; trade. According to the new arrangements,} Australia, for the six months ending December Jl, 1935, will send 950,000 cwt. and New Zealand 1,578,000cwt.j During 193(3, New Zealand will send; 3,900,000c wtarid Australia 1,750,00t1i cwt., provision being made lor an adjustment upwards or downwards iimtlie light of later estimates of United Kingdom production and the capacity ot the; United Kingdom market. As regards beef and veal, Australia has agreed that the total supplies for' the third and fourth quarters of this year will not exceed 1,150,000eiv1'., of which lfiOjOOOewt. will be chilled beef. New Zealand has agreed that her sup-* plies for the six months should not exceed 475,000 cwt., of which (iti,oooexvt. will be chilled. There is also, tin: agreed carry-over of 70,000 cwt. from; Hie second quarter to the third.
