Miss Madge Cranfield is returning this week to her home in Dannevirke after being the guest of Miss Bernadette Mullah. \\ aerenga-a-hika. Mr. R. Gcddes, it nephew of Sir Erie Geildes, chairman of Imperial Airways,; Limited, passed through Auckland on Saturday on his way to Australia. It is reported that Mr. A. Campbell! has been selected as the Labor candidate: for the Chalmers seat against Mr, A. E. Ansell, the sitting member. Mr. Campbell is a brother of the late Mr. X. IL Campbell, who twice unsuccessfully contested this seat. w - ~ Passengers who 1 travelled to Aapiet yesterday by the East. Coast Airways plane included Miss P. Burke, Mrs Jvj I’. Chrism} Messrs Dolemau, E. l.j Chrisp, P. Wade, T. F. Crawford, and A. M. White. Those who travelled to Gisborne the same day included Misses K. and ,J. Thomas; Messrs 0. 11. -Wall,, J. It. Lindsay, A. Dolemau, F. A. Coker and M. J. White. Mrs. Bahrain Doctor, wife of the manager of the Indian hockey team at present in New Zealand, is the guest ol Mrs. G. Chrisp. This is an unofficial visit to Gisborne and Mrs. Doctor, iind-\ ing the tour a strenuous one and feel-* ing the extreme cold of the .South Island too much for her, is recuperating here before leaving on Thursday foe Auckland to attend the third test oil Saturday. Mr. K. IL Robinson, who was re-j cently appointed to the directorate of Milne and Ohoyce, Limited, and Mr. IL S. Milne, a director of the filin', arrived at Auckland on Friday. Mr. Robinson,; who has returned to New Zealand after 16 years in the United States as a buyer for retail businesses in Australia and New Zealand, recently visited Europe, and Mt\ Milne has returned from a visit to Europe and the United States, where lie gained business experience. U Captain Andrew Christie left LytteM ton recently to take up the position of navigating master of the Nelson dredge Wakatu. Captain Christie served his time at sea as a cadet in the barque Hartford. Later he served in; various of the Union Steam Slop Company’s ves T sels. Some years ago lie commanded the company’s steamer Kaitu.ua on a voyage to China after she had been puri chaser by a Chinese firm, lie secured employment in vessels on the China Coast for about three years. During the war Captain Christie was a navigating lieutenant in the .submarine service.
