BRIGHTER TIMES

BUSINESS IN BRITAIN UNSETTLED EUROPE General conditions continue to improve ip Great- Britain, and if it were not for the unsettled state of Europe the improvement would he much more rapid, according to the Rev. R. C. l'ire brace, who arrived at Wellington by the Ruahine. -Mr. Firebraco said that the number of unemployed had been steadily reduced in England and everything was in a position to go ahead. Mr. Firebrace, who has been in holy orders for three years, left Cambridge University in 1921. He spent five years in Australia, where, he met. his wife, who is a Mew Zealander. They later went to India, where he was in charge of the department of English at the university of Aligarh, in the United Provinces. It was nice lo see New Zealand laces again, Mrs. Firebrace said. She had been absent from the Dominion lor 15 years, and had enjoyed her experiences abroad, but she, was glad to return home for a time. Conditions in India were quite good, she said, although there was a certain amount, of bitterness agaipst the English. That, feeling was mostly social, and foolish .Europeans, who looked down upon the natives as colored people, wore largely to blame.
