ONE WEEK’S SALES
18 AEROPLANES ; BRITISH COMPANY (From a Special Correspondent) LONDON, June 4. Eighteen aeroplanes- and 19 engines (exclusive of engines in the aircraft) make up the sales secured in the working days of last week by the de Haviland company. Eleven Tiger Moth light trainer biplanes were ordered for use in British flying schools. Interesting among imminent deliveries is that of the four-engined D.H.86 airliner ordered by Mist- Airwork for operation from Cairo. The appearance of this machine is unusually striking. All of the fuselage is pointed in white. The four engine nacelles, are. green and the highly tapered wing are silver. There' is luxurious accommodation in the roomy dabin for a normal complement of 14 passengers; 16 can be carried with ease' on short-haul working, as, for example, between Cairo and Luxor. Split flaps on the wings enable the craft to land slowly and to glide in at a relatively steep angle, thereby facilitating descents on small aerodromes. Performance figures _of the I). 1 1.86 are worth recalling, because they illustrate the extent to which the British atorflft designer has succeeded in combining- high speed, big load-carrying jCil»4 c ity, and economical running. It cruises at 160 “Ceiling” attainable, -on four engines, with full load on board, is 21,000 ft.
