PREDICTED EARTHQUAKES

AMERICAN STUDENTS ASTONISHINGLY ACCURATE SOME DUE TO-MORROW (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received July 15, 11 a.m.) NEW YORK, July 13. “Only July 1G there will be earthquakes iu South America, the United States Pacific, coast, southern China, and eastern India.” This prediction is voiced by Sir Reuben Greenspan, a young teacher of mathematics and navigation, and in his spare time a geophysicist and seismologist. Recently Mr Greenspan has been astoundingly accurate in telling when and where earthquakes are going to occur. Months ago ho sent notices to the press that an earthquake would occur in India on May 31, or June 1, ■but when Quetta was destroyed and 56,000 lives lost, everyone had forgotten tb.e prediction. Editors began to pay attention when, davs ahead, he. predicted earthquakes in Mexico City on June 29, in Turkey on June 30, and also in Batavia and Japan. Mr Greenspan believes that earthquakes are caused when l he moon is in alignment with the sun or Mercury, Venus, Mars, or other planets over areas known to have faults or fissures. A study of their positions and'of the tides gives him the data required or his predictions. He claims that, he has kept a record of 200 predictions in the past few years, of which 87 per cent were accurate. The 13 per cent, where the data of tin occurrence was wrong, usually .nvolvcd minor disturbances.
