VISIT TO GISBORNE PARTY ARRIVES TO-NIGHT BUSY DAY TO-MORROW In the course of an intinerury commenced iate Inst- week at Auckland His Excellency i-he Governor-General, Viscount Galway, accompanied :by Viscountess Galway, will arrive in Gisborne this evening, and will stay here to-morrow, continuing his southward tour to AVairoa and Napier on AA’e-lnes-dtiy. This will bo the first visit of Their Excellencies to Gisborne, and the opportunity will be taken to tender, on behalf of the town and district, an address of welcome and an expression of 1 oval tv.

The major functions arranged in connection with -the Viceregal visit will be held indoors, owing to the unsuitability ~f the season for outdoor gatherings, i'hvs civic welcome will be tendered to Their Excellencies in the Majestic Theatre to-morrow morning, this •welcome being scheduled for .10 o’clock; subsequent functions during the morning include a . meeting. of His Excellence with returned soldiers of the district at the King’s Theatre, and a school children’s gathering at the Majestic. The ex-service men will weiV-ome Lord -Galway at. 11 a.hi.. arid the Governor-General will return to Ihe Majestic. Theatre at 11.25 to meet ihe school children, who will be favored wit-li a short address, after which the prizes won in the recent Victoria League essay competition will be pro fented. Viscountess Galway, who IS to take morning tea with members of the Women’s Club during the returned soldiers’ welcome, will rejoin her hits band for the children’s gathering.

The Governor-General will partake o) luncheon with the Gisborne Rotary Club, and Viscountess Galway will lunch with the Victoria League. Later they will visit tin* Memorial Home and the'Cook Hospital, where they will inspect the conditions of the two institutions ; Their Excellencies will take afternoon tea at the hospital, and later will proceed to Barton Field, where one ot the East Coast- Airways* planes will be waiting to take Lord Galway on a short aerial tour of Poverty Bay, should the weather be favorable. Attention is directed to the Mayor s request to employers of labor to close then' premises between 9.45 and 10.45 a.in., in order that their staffs might attend the welcome function at the Majestic Theatre.

A guard of honor will be furnished for Their Excellencies by territorial units in training in Gisborne, the W.E.C.M.R. Band being on parade with the, guard. The ceremony*of the salute to 11 is Majesty’s representative will be similar to that followed on the occasion of the visit to Gisborne of the Duke ot Gloucester. ,
