BIRTHDAY PARTY
HAPPY COAST FUNCTION Despite the unsettled weather conditions, a very enjoyable evening was spent at “PaKihikura,” the home o£ Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Hughes, Whakaaiigiiangi, East Coast, on duly 6 to celebrate the coming of age of their' eighth son, Tilson. The dance room was decorated with white and gold streamers, bowls ol' golden jonquil? and golden marigolds. The music was provided by Mr. Ilium Hoerara, and extras by Mrs. Fairlie, Miss Boxall, piano, Mr. McLean and Mr, Tilson Hughes, accordeon, were mucn appreciated. A happy time was spent with dancing, competitions, and community singing until day-break. Miss May Hughes and Mr. Nigel Walford were successful in a much contested Monte Carlo waltz. A statue waltz caused much amusement, Miss June Rudland and Mr. Tilson Hughes proving the winners. Miss Wendy Metcalfe was the winner in a competition, “As you were.” Miss Rene Witters, Gisborne, won the Nursery Rhymes and “Stones gave a Party.” A delicious sit-down supper was served, the tables being decorated with tall vases of golden jonquils and the blue Tingitana iris. The usual toasts were honored while supper was in progress, and pride of place was given to the white and gold iced birthday cake. Those present included Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Fairlie, Mr. and Mrs. L. \V. Cowan, Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Walford (Te Araroa); Misses Margaret and Rene Witters (Gisborne), W. May, Frances Hughes, Wendy" and Beverly Metcalfe, Constance and Mai gery Halliwell, I. Boxall, June and Moira Rudland, and Rachel Fairlie; Messrs. S. B. Rudland, M. Halliwell, Bob, Tilson, Ken Hughes. Jack Hough, Dick Metcalfe. Alan McLean, Bil) Sadder, Nigel Walford. Godfrey Fairlie, H. Willow: The happv event was brought to a close with all joining hands and singing “Auld Lang Syne.”
