; WHARERATA MEETING the July meeting of the Wbareratu Women’s Institute gardening circle was held last Wednesday, and, although the weather was boisterous, there was a irqod attendance, only three members being absent. . The roll call “four plants suitable for a'rock garden,” was well responded to, while the competition, ‘‘a lady’s spray,’’ was keenly contested, the prize going to; Mrs R. Alien for a very dainty entry. An interesting paper on “Roses” was milch 1 appreciated. The general meeting opened at 12.30 p.m. with the singing of the institute song, and was presided over by the vice-president. Mrs G. Torrie. The roll call, a whistling solo, was not very well contested, but‘ caused great amusement. The call for articles for the Victoria League, was freely responded to, a really t - wonderful collection of knitted baby '}■ garments being sent in. f An estimating competition arranged by Mrs G. Torrie presented a hard problem to solve, and was won by Mrs IS. Roist. Mrs A. N. West received the prize for the best collection of homemade sweets. Mrs H. B. McAra and Mrs 11. 11.I 1 . Bnshnell were the hostesses for the day. The singing of the National Anthem brought a very happy meeting to a close.
