NEWSPAPER “WAR”
STATE ACTION URGED
A request to the Government to fix the price of newspapers in Christchurch under the terms of the Board of Trade Act was made by Air. C. 11. Chapman (Lab., Wellington North), in the House of Representatives in an urgent question to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. Sir Alexander Young. Mr. Chapman referred to the position in Christchurch, “where 300 printing trades employees were threatened with unemployment owing to a newspaper war.” The Minister stated that the matter was one for the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. R. Masters, and that he would refer the question to him.
