HIGH COST OF APATHY
1 iONDON’S EXPERIENCE LONDON, March 9. Despite the experiences ot several London boroughs and the proved costliness of socialism, only 30 per cent, of the ratepayers had sufficient interest or energy to vole during the last London County Council election. The result, ns all the world knows, was a i riumphant victory for the Libor candidates, who, in less than a year, have pumped the municipal coffers dry. And now, of course, the inevitable has happened. Having spent, all available revenue in
addition of a “nest egg” of £2,000,000 left by the Municipal Reformers, iiio new county councillors have decided to raise the rales by 10.U1 in the pound, which will cost London ratepayers precisely an extra 82.750.0C0. this year. Apailiv, it seems, has its price and its 'lessons. London has not been a whit better administered during the socialist regime. The community has the same old grievances and the same old list of complaints. Practically the only beneficiaries are those, who are perpetually in need of pblilie assistance, and they, lucky ones, have made fhe most ol their chances. An extra £400,000 has been handed over to them without, a murmur, with the promise of more to come.
