Although winter games nave already commenced to supersede the summer pastimes, the following of amateur athletics at recent meetings has been well maintained.

National Dancing was again included in the programme and with Mr. G. Purvis as piper this section of the evening’s ■litertainmenti proved a great attraction. \ considerable increase was noticed in the number of entries. The medal pre- ■ mted by the Poverty Bay branch of the New Zealand Dancing and Piping Association for the senior competitor gaining! most points during the season was von by Miss Colleen Perston with 478 J 'joints, while Miss Edith Livingston was the runner-up with 477 points. The medal presented by Mr. E. Brown for most points gained by a junior comnetitor was won by Margaret Jonasen, ’•64 points, while the runner-up was Mnriorie Fletcher, 4631 points. The ifticiifls were: —Judges, Miss Moira lohnstonc and Mr. H. McKnight; piper, Mr. G. Purvis: stewards, Messrs. Sim. Livingston and Jonasen. Several wrestling bouts, which are always a feature of the meetings, wore also staged. A particularly spirited bout of "ive three-minute rounds took place between .1. Bnara, G’sborne, and F. Heyward, Hastings. The contest aroused 'rent enthusiasm amongst the spectators, who loudly applauded when J. Bong, in he fourth round, secured the only fall. WEEKLY MEETING The programme for the Awapuni Sports Club’s meeting this week was a lengthy one and included several handicap events, all of which were keenly contested. In the championship section Glassford was again outstanding, winning the 100yds., 220yds. flat, 220yds. hurdles and the javelin throw. His throw of 71ft. 1 Ain. was a very creditable effort for a schoolboy. J. and E. Gordon filled the minor places in most of the championship events. Stenner annexed the halfmile cycle and SSOyds. walk titles. In the- walk lie was closely folowod by T. Read. The most popular win of the day was the success of S. Phillips in the 220yds. hurdles handicap. This boy is one of the smallest 'but, keenest members of the club.
