PIPE BAND CONTESTS
CONDITIONS DISCUSSED ANNUAL CONFERENCE (Per Press Association.) TIMARU, this day. At the annual pipe bands’ conference, Mr. T. Gilchrist, of Dunedin, presided, and the delegates were welcomed by the president of the Tirnaru Pipe Band. A remit by Dunedin tliat the winning band should be awarded the following medals: the pipe major and drum major gold medals, and the remainder silver medals, was carried. Mr. McCall moved a remit from Dunedin that a contest should be staged for drummers. It was emphasised that pipers and drummers were only parts of the unit, and that it would be unwise to make the distinction. After some discussion the remit was withdrawn. It was decided that the entry fee for contests should be £5 ss, without a refund. A remit that the selected items should bo sent to all bands nine months before tho contest was withdrawn after discussion. On the halving of points, it was agreed that points should not be halved. The following executive remit was carried : “That a special general meeting be held wherever a Dominion contest is held, and that the annual _ meeting be held where the executive is domiciled.” . Officers were elected ns follows: President Mr. Teller (Christchurch); vice-presidents, Mr. T. Gilchrist (-Dunedin), and Mr. G. Lauchlan (Wellington) ; secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. Johnson (Christchurch); auditor, Mr. G. Seay (Christchurch).
