“HIGH-HANDED ACTION”

MEAT BOARD REMITS POVERTY BAY COMPLAINT A charge of deliberately stifling tile views of the Sheepowners’ Federation is made against the electoral committee of the New Zealand Meat Board in the report of the Poverty Bay and East Coast Sheepowners’ Union to be placed before the annual meeting on March 2. The report appears over the name of the president, Mr. C. H. Williams, and under the heading of “remits to Meat Board,” states: — “Remits recommending organised research in the meat industry and also the more efficient grading of beef for export were sent forward to the annual meeting of the electoral college in 'Wellington. The college for some reason declined even to consider these remits and the subjects were again shelved. “Remits on exactly similar lines were carried unanimously at the annual meeting of our federation. The electoral college must therefore accept the responsibility of deliberately stifling the views of the Sheepowners’ Federation of New Zealand. Since our members in most districts supply by far the greater part of the Dominion’s meat products this high-handed action requires explanation.”
