Story of San Francisco
“pOTfTJR AIT of a Courtesan,” by Mr Charles Caldwell Dobie, is a remarkable story of Ban Francisco, and if taken too literally, a novel of the seamy side of that gay city. But it is more than that, for Air. Dobie’a story of Colin Cameron, the artist, ami Florrie Dowsott is a study of life which is perhaps more normal than even San Franciscans would acknowledge. It is impossible, for example, to justify Florrie’s love affairs, lin'd yet there is something about her which holds the reader and compels appreciation given against all canons of propriety. Perhaps Air. Dobie’s best character is the Jew, Isidore Ci recubaum.
