MEMORIAL TO MAYORESS TRIBUTE BY PICNICKERS An unusual and impressive memorial service, believed to be unique in the Dominion, was lu-lj tit the Ngnuiotu Bench, Xew fiyiiioulh, on Thursday afternoon, when hundreds <d' •Stmtford picnickers paid their last respects to. the memory of the lute Mrs. .1 McMillan, Mayoress of Si Pal lord, whose funeral took place that day. It was the occasion of the annual picnic of the Stratford Mehool to New Plymouth and as usual a general holiday had keen declared in Stratford and many hundreds of residents travelled to Ngamotu Iteucli, On account of -Mrs. McMillan’s death the authorities eoncerned had discussed postponement of the. picnic, 'hill this was lotind to be impossible. A meet itig of the school committee decided, in view of the circumstances, to carry on with the arrangements, but to hold a memorial service at the beach pavilion.
