MRS. JAMES DALRYMPLE

, Writing as an old friend the late ' Mrs. James Dalrymple, whose death was reported in a recent issue of the Herald, a well-known Gisborne resident expresses the deepest sympathy with the relatives of the deceased, and comments that the newer generation of residents in this district is probably unaware of the contributions made by the late Mrs. Dalrymple to the social and musical activities of early Gisborne. was the third daughter of the late Colonel T. All four daughters of Colonel Porter were greatly gifted in music, and Mrs. Dalrymple's soprano voice was often highly praised, though, to some extent it was owrshadowed by the vocal talent of % sister,' Te Rangi Pai, whose fame spread far abroad. The seizure to which her death was due occurred, in fact, during an evening of domestic gaiety, in which Mrs. Dalrymple, from her conch, gavo a lead to the merriment.
