Two Chinese, Fong Lee, 50, a market gardener, occupying premises at Marshland, and Lay Sun,- 26, a market gardener, were convicted on charges connected with the illegal possession and storage of opium. Fong Lee, for allowing his premises to be used for the storage of opium, was fined £25, and given one month to pay. Lay Sun was charged with being found in illegal possession of opium and unlawfully smoking opium. The latter charge was dropped on the ground that as no pipe was iound it was impossible to prove smoking. Accused was fined '£2s, 14 days being allowed in which to pay, in default three months' gaol. Both men had been convicted on similar charges on December 20, when Fong Lee was fined £lO3 and Lay Sun £l2 10s.
