DAMAGE BY LIGHTNING
BUILDINGS DESTROYED QUEENSLAND STORM
Violent electrical disturbances in Queensland recently _ were responsible lor some exciting incidents. At Oxley a storeroom was struck by lightning, ' picked up bodily by the wind and dumped again in one piece 60yds. away and smashed to pieces. Tlic dwelling adjoining was torn to pieces, sheets of iron being carried by the gale and wrapped round trees like pieces of paper. A mile away an unoccupied house was struck by lightning and smashed to matchwood. ■ A storm was also experienced on the north coast, the lightning being worst experienced for years. At Yandina, in the Moretou district, light-ning-enveloped the post office in flames, and a tremendous explosion which followed; threw everyone in the building .to the floor. Houses were unroofed in many suburbs, while at New Farm lightning struck a brick chimney .and several .hundredweight of bricks and masonry 'fell through a roof into a room in which a man and his wife were dining. They had a remarkable escape from being crushed to death.
