PREMATURE DISCLOSURE
IRISH- tfRADE AGREEMENT EFFECT ON MEAT MARKET (Elec. Tol. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received Jan. 4, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 3. The Sun-Herald says that although the leakage, of the Anglo-Irish agreement somewhat embarrassed British Government quarters which had not intended to reveal it until February as a White l'aper, inner circles were aware, that recent, discussions with the Dominions envisaged the possibility of some increase in Irish supplies, for which provision was made.
Government, quarters are cither unable or not ready to explain delicate and embarrassing phases of a situation arising at an unfortunate moment, and coinciding with Mr. S. M. Bruce's intimation to Mr. J. 11. Thomas that Australia had agreed to a temporary meat restriction. Australia's and oilier Dominions" immediate concern is the effect on the meat situation, it- is estimated that Ireland's exports of cattle on a basis of a-year will be roughly 150.0C0 head above those of 1.934, which is approximately 530,000cwfc. additional to existing foreign and Dominion imports, while the effect of a 65 2-3 per cent, increase in fat. cattle over tho existing quota approximates 38,000 head, but the' effect on either imports or market prices is uncertain. Mr. de Valera, interviewed, expressed the opinion that it was a business transaction based on mutual interests, for which the Free State was always willing. Similar opportunities which doubtless would present themselves probably will he treated in the' same spirit.
