GOVERNOR'S MESSAGE

AUCKLAND, this day. The following message has been sent by the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, to Archbishop O'Shea in connection with Archbishop Redwood's death: "My wife and I join with the members of your great Christian brotherhood in sorrowing tor the loss of your eminent and revered, veteran chief, who passed from our midst lost, night. lie. was for nearlv a century so much a part of New Zealand, rind its civil and spiritual progress and development, and was so resolute in his pursuit of righteousness, that the Dominion cannot but feel immeasurably poorer for Iris passing, although proudly conscious of having numbered among her citizens and Empire builders so unique, a personality."'
THE LAST RITES
MESSAGES OF SYMPATHY (Tor Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this clay. From early this morning tributes and messages of" sympathy were received by Archbishop O'Shea. "Amongst them was a message from Bishop Sprott> Anglican Bishop of Wellington, and his' wife sending respectful sympathy in the death of a great and venerable Archbishop, and one from the Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health. ; "In the passing of Archbishop Redwood, New Zealand loses a notable and beloved citizen, and the church in particular an outstanding prelate," Mr. Young's message, read. "His demise will be mourned by"all sections of the community. To your church and the relatives of Jho late" Archbishop I tender my heartfelt' sympathy in the. great loss sristairied:"-
The last rites will commence in the Basilica, Hill street, at 10 a.m. on -Tuesday, when a solemn Pontifical Re■"quiem Mass will be celebrated, Archbishop O'Shea being the celebrant. The assisting priests will.not be chosen until it is known who will be attending from other centres.
A procession will pass down Hill street and proceed by way of Sydney street to Karori cemetery. The children of St. Mary and members of the Hibernian .Society will march in regalia.
