(Herald Correspondent.) Rain commenced to fall on Tuesday night and up to Thursday evening (GO hours) 5.24 m. was registered at Maru■moko. During Thursday thunder ■was almost continuous, and in the afternoon for 20 minutes there was no •break in the roar amongst the hills. The creeks at Whakarau were higher than the residents there had ever known them to lie. The Kokapara Stream, near Mr P. D. Russell’s homestead, carried large boulders and logs across the roadway, and the fence surrounding the school is massed with debris. The road is only passable on horseback'. The rainfall for Dceem'ber was l.Slin., registered on seven days. For the year ended December 31, 1034, only fiS.Oin. fell, the lowest rainfall for 14 years. Mr and Mrs P. D. Russel! returned to their home at Whakarau on Thursday after spending an enjoyable holiday in Auckland, —Mr L. C. Arthur spent a few days in 'Gisborne this week.—Miss Jean Hayden, Auckland, is spending a holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs 0. W. IFavdon.
