STRUCK BY LIGHTNING
DAMAGE TO YACHT
THREE OTHERS CAPSIZE
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Three boats were capsized by squalls which swept the harbor yesterday, and a fourth was struck by lightning. Tho latter was an 18-footer in which were tho owner, Mr. W. T. Haydon, his wife, and a friend. They heard a loud report and saw a blinding flash. The mainsail was split from top to bottom. Through the fierce rain they saw another boat about 100yds ahead capsize, throwing the crew of four boys into the water. Mr. Haydon carried on under a jib sail and dropped anchor near the capsized boat. Two boys swam to him, but one of the two, still in the water, called out that his companion was sinking. Mr. Haydon thereupon picked them up in his dinghy, and after the, squall had passed both boats wore towed to safety by a passing launch. In other parts of tile harbor two boats capsized, and their occupants also were rescued by launches.
