The tennis championships were continued, including the singles elimination round in which Hughes defeated W. Robertson (13. R.). 6-1. 6-0, 6—3 ; Perrv defeated E. J- Mahoney, 6—6, 6—4,' 6—2. , _ In the doubles, Boussus and Bmgnon defeated Roland and Ryan, 6—l, 6—5, B—6; Malcolm and Kirby defeated J. Grinstead and It. Cummings, 6—l, 13—11, 9—7; Mnier and Hopman defeated J. Harper and D. K. Eitchctt, g g g 1 ; 3—6, 9—-7 ; Ewm and fetefani’defeated Clemenger and Kaygybc, I_6 6—4, 6—3, 6—4; Menzel and Moon defeated Knight and Robertson, g__2, g— 2, 6—4; Crawford and McGrath defeated Tonkin and Purcell, B — 6, 6 — 2, 6 — 2. . , Robertson, who was nominated by tho Los Angeles Lawn Tennis Association, was disappointing. Hughes had only to keep tho hall in. play and wait for Robertson’s errors. The French Davis Cup players made an impressive first appearance, though tho home pair put up a good fight, but the Frenchmen’s returns of service were too good. The South Africans, Kirby and Malcolm, were thoroughly extended by the Queensland pair.
