CORNWALL CUP
THE THIRD RACE
(Per Press Association.) TAURANGA, this day. The third race for the Cornwall Cup was sailed this morning over the same course as yesterday morning, but- it was shorter. Hamilton was first away, followed bv Manukau, Tauranga, and Auckland. There was a light breeze. With half the distance to the mark covered, the Auckland and Tauranga boats were sailing a good race, being equal, on terms, with Ala mikau two minutes back, and Hamilton another two minutes away, last. The wind was then fluky and freshening. Auckland was first round the mark, followed by the Tauranga boat, 20scc. later, Manuknu 2min., Hamilton 7min. later.
On the run back to the town wharf the Tauranga boat closed up slight ly, with Manukau handy. The Hamilton boat was still seven minutes behind. The breeze had stiffened considerably, which enabled Manukau to reduce the gap. Tauranga Jed round the mark, Auckland being 20sec. later, Manukau 20sec. behind, and Hamilton well back, out of the race. The run home was exciting, the Tauranga boat proving much faster off 'the wind in the strong breeze and finished 35sec. aherfd of Auckland’s entry. The Manukau boat was 2sec. behind "Auckland. The 'Hamilton boat was still beating down to the mark.
