OFF TO ANTARCTIC

THE BEAR OF OAKLAND

EXPEDITION TO EVACUATE

(Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. The Rear of Oakland sailed for Little America early this afternoon, a wireless message from Admiral Byrd instructing Captain English to leave. She will advise from tho ice-pack whether the .Jacob Rapport could negotiate the pack, the latter remaining here in the meantime. If conditions are unsuitable, the Bear will ferry the personnel, gear, etc., from Little America, but should the Rapport be able to proceed the Bear will explore along the ice barrier, in which event she will probably not return to New Zealand before sailing. Captain English said New Zealand had always been tho home of Antarctic expeditions, and had been particularly generous to Americans.
