First hand knowledge -of New Zealand sheep shearing and 'sheep farming ope nil ions was obtained by the Duke of Gloucester yesterday, when In- was shown over Mr T. A. Duncan’x property at Huntervilie. In the Uied.% the 'Prince raw the machines in full operation aud displayed great, interest in the dogs. Lie went into the pens and assisted in drafting fat Jambs from ewes ready for shearing, aud he also examined specimens of wools and took cinematograph photographs of the shearing. Although rain fell in the morning, the weather cleared in the afternoon, which the Duke spent horseback riding cross-country and enjoying jumping logs. He" "rejoined the Royal train at Hunterville and left Ohakunc at midnight for New Plymouth, where he is due this morning.
