Mrs. A. Worthington, Gisborne, was a recent visitor to Auckland.

Mrs. D. McGregor, Mastcrton, is visiting Gisborne. Mrs. T. If. Watson, Mr. Alastair Watson and Dr. Mary Watson, of I.ansdowne, -Mastcrton, are on a holiday lour of Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne. Mr. and Mrs. A. Lonsdale, Hamilton, who are on a motoring tour of the North Island, visited Gisborne during tlie weekend. They left on Monday for Waikaremoana. .Mr. and Mrs. John Alexander and Mi;. Alexander, juu., Auckland, who have been visitors to Opotiki, left on Monday for Gisborne, via Cape Runaway.

Mrs. R. G. H. Howard-Vy.se arrived at Auckland -on Sunday by the Akaroa from England. She was met on board.by bet' husband', Mayor-General R.. G. Hpward-Vyse, chief of staff to the Duke of Gloucester. Mrs. Iloward-Vyse is making the round trip.

Recent, visitors to Auckland included the following: Miss Richardson, Gisborne ; Miss A. Rogers, Ruatona; Messrs. W. J. McLeod, A. P. Smith,' and W. Riddell, Gisborne; Mr. J, Reidy, Ruatoria; and Mr. 11. L. Tempest, Tolaga Buy, Mr. Jap Eng Ho, of Batavia, a Javanese of high rank, who has been visiting Melbourne in connection with the Gentenary celebrations, came to Dunedin by the Maheno. lie will tour the North Island, and will leave Auckland for Sail Francisco on January 12. The Melbourne University has awarded the degree of doctor of veterinary science to Mr. C. S. AI. Hopkirk, officer iu charge of the Department of Agriculture’s veterinary laboratory at Wallaceville. Mr. Hopkirk is leaving for Melbourne on Friday to attend the veterinary conference, and also the Australian and New Zealand Science Congress. —P.A.

•A slight improvement was shown yesterday and to-day in the condition of Mrs. .T. Jackson, Mayoress of Gisborne, on whose account deep concern was, feltla t« last week, when the members of her family were called together from various parts of New Zealand. The news of her improved prospects of recovery will be received with much satisfaction by Mr. Jackson’s many friends.
