DANCE AT TE PUIA

(Herald Correspondent.) Last week a much enjoyed dance was held in To Puia Hall, the proceeds being for improvements to the hall. The dance music was supplied by Wi Hapi’s orchestra, and extras were played by Miss K. Beale, and Mr. Y. Hutchinson. The hall was artistically decorated with greenery, while the supper tables were gay with mixed flowers. A delicious sit-down supper was served. Among those present were Mesdames S. Clark, D. RUATORIA TENNIS DANCE A very jolly dance was held in the new Gaiety Theatre, Ruatorio, last Friday. There were about 70 couples present and the floor, music and supper were all that could be desired. The music was supplied by local Maoris, while extras were played by Miss Kura Beale.

During supper Mr. R. 11. Wicksteed, the president of the Ruatoria Tennis Club, presented the trophies to the winners in the different events of the tennis tournament. Messrs. B. Akers and F. Smythe, jun., capably carried out the duties of M.C. Much credit is due to Mesdames Lunken and Windsor, Misses N. O’Rorke, J. Wicksteed, P. O’Rorke, and K. On Saturday afternoon, “Mokoiwi,” the beautiful home of Mr and Mrs J. If. Tapi in, was the scene of a very happy gathering. The weather was fine and tennis was much enjoyed. The party took the form of a gift afternoon for Miss Snllie Cotterill, whose marriage to Mr Brian Burke takes nlace early in February. Mrs J. 11. Taplin and Mrs G. E. Cotterill were -ho joint hostesses. Miss Cotterill received many useful gifts, both for .he kitchen and storeroom. During the afternoon u delicious afternoon tea was partaken of.
