CAPTAIN E. R, DRUMMOND -V...' ' • LONDON, Nov. 12. The Admiralty announce that, with the concurrence of His Majesty’s Government in New Zealand, Captain the Hon. E. It. Drummond, M.V.0., has Been selected to succeed Rear-Admiral F. Burges-Watson, D. 5.0., *\s Fiist Naval Member of the New Zealand Naval Board and as commodore commanding the New Zealand Station, being lent to His M’ajestv’s Government in New Zealand as a commodore, second class, to date March 9, 1935. Captain Drummond will lake up his appointment about April 24, 1935. This appointment in command of the New Zealand Division of the RoyaJ ’ Navy .is usually held for three years, : and Rear-Admiral Burges-Watson completes this period in April. The Dominion maintains two cruisers, the Dun edin and Diomede, and during the tenure of the next commodore they are, expected to be replaced by two new cruisers, as both are nearing the age limit. . Captain Drummond was 50 in May last, and is a younger brother of Sir Eric Drummond, late Secretary. General . .of the League of Nations. He went to sea in 1900 as midshipman of the Hannibal. In 1912 he was lent to the Canadian Government as lieutenant of the cruiser Niobe. During the War he served as executive officer of the cruisers Caroline and Cardiff in the Grand Fleet. He was executive officer of the Queen Elizabeth, Home Fleet flagship, as a commander. Since his promotion to captain in 1925 he has commanded the cruisers Capetown and Delhi, on the American Station, and Curacoa and Despatch, in the Mediterranean.
