Winie swimming"in Lake Horowhenna at Levin Kenneth Henry Lankshear, 16, of Levin, was drowned. He and four other hoys, between flip ages of 10 and 15, went out on the lake in a small boat. They dived overboard and lathed, and the boat slowly drifted away. The other hoys were able to regain the boat, hut they saw that Lankshear was some distance awav and in difficulties, Tie called for help, and the others rowed toward him, but could not reach him before he disappeared.
