VERY DRY SEASON
A Lyttelton resident who is visiting t.tie Chatham Islands states in a letter that the season at the islands has been a very dry one. When lie wrote there had been no rain for several weeks and household storage tanks twere mearly empty. Baths were a luxury, and the writer said he had to make shift with a basin of water. He had had a few swims in n safe hole in the rocks. Otherwise sea bathing was impossible because o.f stingrays, octopuses and slunks. None of the islanders will ever venture into the sea. 110 even found an octopus in the swimming hole on one occasion.
