The Manawatu summer meeting opened to-day in fine, warm weather. There was a big attendance. The totalisator handled £21,626 10s, against £24,095 last year. Maiden Plate.—s Hunting Queen (B. If. Won by a neck, and a head. Time, 1.15.

Manawatu Cup.—3 Tout le Monde (MacKinnon), 1; 7 Red Sun (Tattersall), 2; 8 Brambletorn (Jenkins), 3. Also ran: 1 Hazoor, 2 Passion Fruit, 4 Plateau, 9 Arikira, 6 Catalogue, 5 Copper King. Won by a length, and half a length. It was a good race with the field well bunched half a mile, from home, where Brambletorn and Catalogue were the, pacemakers from Copper King, Plateau and Tout le Monde. The lastnamed was in charge, and at the home turn went on to win decisively from the fast-finishing Red Sun; Brambletorn was half a length away third, and Passion Fruit fourth. Time, 2.35 2-5.
