With a view to endeavoriug to clear the rivers of the Dannevirke district of eels, a proposal is afoot to form an eeling club in the town. A remarkable effect in. the composition of the stone placed in the Lyttelton railway yards to commemorate the landing of the first of the Canterbury pilgrims from the Charlotte Jane 81 years ago, was noticed by a number of those present at the unveiling ceremony. On one side of the stone there is an inscrip-* tion. but in the stone on the reverse side appears a striking outline of a face, hearing a resemblance to d Maori or an Indian. There is a clear-cut forehead, the cheeks have been trimmed venting a nose in profile, and a numtli and chin are submerged in the stone.,/ The “Trocadero” (Napier) Tea and Luncheon Rooms will be in full awing throughout the holiday season.
