SANTA CLAUS BUSY
Christmaa Day was- a; festiirfe arid happy occasion for the inmates of the ,Cook Hospital, the Memorial Home, and jAhe Heni Materoa Children’s Home, and l|e«t|rytiling possible was dorvo to bring Jpaisure to the aged, the young, and F to those who were unfortunate enough to be in ill-health during the holiday season. All three institutions gaily - decorated; • and special ChriSttnas fire was provided at dinner time,..the . generosity of many firms and individuals making it possible to give muchpleasure to the inmates of the institutions. The wards at the Cook. Hospital wftre gaily decorated for the festive season, and the patients passed'a happy Chrirtmas. Early in the morning the night, sister as Santa Claus visited all the -adult wards and placed a gift at -each bedside. The children had a particularly joyous time, for during the afternoon Santa Claus (the Rev. F. ; I; Parsons) visited the ward to distribute gifts to the young people from a large Christmas tree laden with presents, while a special Christmas message to each child was broadcast from 2ZJ. All the patients who- were able gathered to witness the happy scene. At the Memorial Home a quiet tufthappy .GWistmas was spent by tie inmates.- • -There was no special function, but. an excellent dinfiet was served, and the numerbus dainties donated by- friends 1 added much to the pleasure' of the d4y. ’ During the. afternoon a number Of friends yjsjtffd the institution to leave gifts fort a niimber of the old people. • Amortg tWso Who made donations are the following:. Members of the Church of Christ and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Christmas cakes; Mr. D. J. Barry, soft drinks;' Mr. Nolan, apricots; Mrs. A. J. Faulkner, lamb; Miss Tougher, fancy biscuits and dates for the. ladies. Tnere were also two donations of money, one received anonymously and the otliOr from Fa&hcr Me Mahon. An exceptionally joyous time was. tE', by the children at the H-btrt roa Home on Christmas Day. Many onations were received and Santa Claus -as kept busy presenting the gifts. It one of the happiest Christmases the children had spent and the presents in-., eluded many useful articles. A wonder, iul dinner was provided, while the afternoon was spent* in playing games. On Monday afternoon the children, greatly enjoyed atr Outing, being taken to town for shopping.
