The New Zealand-bred Homer registered ,i line performance by winning the December Nursery Handicap after a terrific duel with the brilliant Queensland horse Benfiold. Benfield, on the rails, had a slight advantage over Homer until the straight. Here they raced neck and’ neck until 50yds. from Ihe post, when the strain began to tell on both. Homer, displaying more stamina, won narrowly irom the fast-fininshing Silver Rose and Gibson, with Behold a head away fourth.

The Queensland horse, ftachian, led all the way to win the Viiliers Stakes from Turbine. The latter moved up from sixth place to witum half a head of the leader a mrlong from home, but could get no nearer. Magnitas won the Holiday Handiwith cpnviucing ease. He was patiently handled until .the straight entrance, when he ilevv past the leaders, winning comfortably. G. Price, who trains Homer, had another success in the last race, when Capris ran away from the Highweight field, to tvin as he liked. Shortly after entering the straight in the first division of the Novice Handicap, El Senorita fell, and the horses outside, in an attempt to avoid her, wore packed up. Teilano went down, and Not So Bad fell over him. Knox, who rode Not So Bad, and Findlay, rider, of El Senorita, escaped injury, but McCarten, who was on Telfano, was taken to hospital with an injured rib. Results were: —

Hurdles. —Abbot’s Lad, 11.2 (McMenamin), 1; Bowthorne 9.10 (Shell), 2; Grecian Knight, 9.0 (Emend), 3. Ten started, including Clangor, who was sixth. Won by half a neck and threequnrters of a length. Time, 3.44 J. December Nursery' Handicap.— Homer, 8.12 (MeCarten), 1; Silver Rose, 8.2 (O'Sullivan), 2; Gibson, 8.2 (Russell), 3. Fourteen started. Won by a long head and a short head. Time, 1.2. Viiliers Stakes. Bachian, 7.9 (Knox), 1; Turbine, 8.3 (Pratt), 2; Dermid (Webb), 3. • Fourteen started, including Lone Raider.' Won by half a length and 1} lengths. Time, 1.37. Novice Handicap, first division. — Nitas, 8.2 (Bartle), 1; Medusa, 7.12 (W. Cook), 2; Bombastic, 8.4 (Munro), 3. Twenty-four started, including Limoux. Won by a short head and a neck. Time, 1.14.

Novice Handicap, second division. — Kaylah, 8.12 (Maxwell), 1; Glenwitch, 8.4 (Munro), 2; Kosmead, 8.3 (Pratt), 3. Twenty-four started, including Palady, Mananui and Nightjar. Won by a length, same distance between second and third. Time, 1.13}.

Holiday Handicap. — Mngnitas, 9.1 (Bartle), 1; Dark Chief, 7.13 (Lightfoot), 2; Brown Force, 9.5 (Pike), 3. Fifteen started, including Senior, who ran disappointingly. Won by 1£ lengths, and half a length. Time, 2.5. Highweight Handicap.—Cnpris, 8.2 (Pratt), 1; Dromos, 8.2 (Cook), 2; Australian Bee, 8.3 (Weiss), 3. Twenty started, including Love Song, who was fourth, and Tmpasto, who was seventh. Won by three lengths and two lengths. Time, 1.371. Dromos, who last week won the Roseliill Corinthian Cup (amateur riders) is owned by the ex-New Zealander, Mr. E. J. Watt.

Won by half a length and a length. Time, 144. Trial 'Hurdles.— Character, 9.4 (Douglas), 1; Hit the Deck, 10.5 (Scarlet), 2: Ben David, 11.9 (Hynes), 3. Eleven started.
