In continuation of the YVairoa Boating Club’s McOoldrick Doubles, Anderson and Mann (I6sec.) defeated Hole and Tounsley (lOsec.) by about four lengths, Gilligan and Jackson (lOsec.) beat Anderson and Mann (16sec.) after a good race. Knight and Prior (18sec.) beat Helean and Marker (scr.) after a very good race. droves and Dunbar (2f7see.) beat G. Williams and T. Nicol (19sec.) by four lengths. The final will bo rowed to-day. Macmillan, Minister for Agriculture, passed through YVairoa on Thursday,—Mr- O. Sporle, Feilding, who has been on a visit to Whuroa, has returned home.—Miss May Davv, sister of Mrs. R. Steed, Nuhaka, is a patient in the YY'airoa Hospital. The prospects for the Te Reingn sports at Ruakituri and the annual regatta at Wnikaremoana arc very promising. HIGH SCHOOL FUNCTION
After the presentation of the proficiency certificates at the YVairoa District High School breaking-up assembly on YVednesday, a special prize donated by a former prominent resident of YVairoa, who desired to remain anonymous, was awarded to Pat Galbraith for highest aggregate marks in English. The attendance and swimming certificates .won during the year also were presented. During the afternoon a very pleasing function took place in Form It room, when a presentation of a solid silver cigarette case was made to Air. Mudgway by -Master Barry Coleman, who expressed the appreciation of their popular master’s efforts on their behalf. In acknowledging the compliment, Mr. Aludgway urged the boys and girls to be good citizens. In the secondary department, pupils and staff assembled at the close of the school year. Air. Isdale farewelled the retiring headmaster, Air. Robson, expressing deep appreciation of the latter’s strenuous efforts on their behalf. Air. Robson presented the awards for the physical culture championship, and complimented the winner, Joan Heighten, on her achievement in two successive years. Marie Prebblc, the runner-up, also received a well deserved tribute.
