TWO MONTHS’ GAOL

INTOXICATED DRIVER

(Per Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, this day

Two months’ gaol without the option was the sentence imposed on Samuel Donald Halliday, 47, a laborer, in the Police Court this morning for being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car on the main south road last evening. His driving license was suspended and lie was prohibited from procuring another for 18 months. Halliday collided with a woman cyclist who received a broken leg. He was on the wrong side. “When undergoing tests I asked Halliday what, day of Hie week it was,” said the sub-inspector, “and he replied ‘That is not a fair question to put to a man.’ I repented the question in Dr. .Scott’s presence and eventually Halliday said it was Monday. That shows the state lie was in.”
