It was announced in the House of Commons that an additional provision of £500,000 will he made available out of the road fund for grants to schemes for the reconstruction of weak' bridges, and other urgent improvements with which the highway authorities are ready to proceed immediately. Grants at the rate of 75 per cent, towards 25 bridge schemes to cost about £400,000 are being issued at once. These are additional to about 80 schemes for the reconstruction of weak bridges or replacing level crossings at a total cost of £670,000, which the Transport Minister has already approved. j
