Tlib spell of dry weather in (llshorne was broken suddenly at about 3.30 p.m. to-day by a thunderstorm. winch swept over a section of the district, lhe rain descended in big drops which sounded almost like hailstones on the roofs, and was so heavy that within a few minutes streets were awash and gutters flooded. The rain put a dampener on tile Christmas shopping in the town. There was an almost general absence of either overcoats .or umbrellas among the shoppers, so that shops which catered for that type of goods were likely to do some unanticipated business.
