TOWN ILLUMINATIONS
BOARD CONGRATULATED
AN EXTENSION URGED
The Power Board engineer, Mr. G. T. Cuthbort, was congratulated to-day by members of the board oil the illuminations arranged for the visit of the Duko of Gloucester. It was stated that a proposed future extension was under consideration to as far as Derby street. At the conclusion of to-day’s board meeting, Mr. H. H. DcOosta said he wished to congratulate tne engineer and staff on the electrical display in Gladstone road. Everyone, he said, had commented on its effectiveness, and had remarked that it was a great display, the board having been given union credit.
The chairman, Mr. F. R. Ball, said that he had been telling the engineer that he must keep down the expense as far as possible, “But, now,’’ Mr. Ball said, “I am going to suggest spending a little more. Our lights run out just past the clock tower, and the Derby street people have been complaining. I think we should put up another string of lights. ’ ’ The engineer said that the difficulty in obtaining sufficient lamps might not bo overcome. The lights on the arch would bo removed immediately after Christmas, and these might be used for the remainder of the festive season.
The mattor of erecting another string of lights near Derby street was left to the ongineer. The chairman remarked that a few business people had asked for lights to be put up on their premises, and ho took this opportunity of pointing out that these additional lighting effects had been paid for by the business peoplo concerned.
