Estates of a value of £544,407 were reported and accepted for administration by the Public Trustee during the month. On March 31, 1934, the total value of the estates under administration was C 60,760,493, and the new business for the mght months ended November 30, 1934., was £4,164,542, compared with 93.504,792 for the corresponding period Inst year. The Commissioner of Police, Mr W. G. Wohlmann, chatting to a Herald representative last evening, stated that he desired to express appreciation ot the manner in which the people on the East Const had responded to the request to keep the roads clear during he passage- of the cars containing he Royal party. The .courtesy of the maple in this respect was very remarkable. Not one head of stock was passed on the road, and invariably drivers of vehicles who were on the road pulled to one side and stopped their cars to allow the procession to pass. Notwithstanding the pressure of his official 'business, the Hon. A. Young, Minister in attendance on the JDuke of Gloucester, found time last night to attend a reception by Rebekah Lodge, 1.0.0. F., arranged by the Gisborne branches of the order. The gathering was presided over by Mr C. L. Harvey, district deputy-grand master, who, on behalf of the "fraternity, welcomed the Minister to the district and voiced the pleasure all felt at Ins presence. lie explained that in view of the earlier doubt as to whether the Minister would be available, nothing in the way of an entertainment or formal function had been planned. It was the desire of members of the order in Gisborne to meet Mr Young, and to extend to him the heartiest of welcomes to the lodge. In the course of a brief address, the Minister said that he had been honored by meeting the brethren and the sisters, and expressed his gratification that in Gisborne the order was flourishing and had such a strong women’s branch.

Oarsmen of the Poverty Bay and Gisborne Rowing Club, and members of the Gisborne Surf and Swimming club, carried out creditably their share in the public celebrations last evening, in connection with the visit to Gisborne of the Duke of Gloucester. The huge crowd which gathered on the banks of the Turanganui River in the neighborhood of the Trafalgar Rotunda and the War Memorial was entertained for well over lialf-an-hour by a series of rowing races, and a canoe race was also productive J of a good deal of excitement, particularly among the younger people in the crowd, who seemed to know tlie majority of the contestants in this event. The bridge-tp-bridge race for the Gibbs Cup, conducted under the auspices of the Gisborne Surf and Swimming Club, was won by W. Parley by a narrow margin from P. Wilson, with IT. Holmes a close third. The field for this event numbered 12, and it was not far from the stnrt that the placed contestants began to draw away from the rest. They had a keen tussle over the Inst third of the course, urged on by their respective supporers iri the crowd of spectators. 4 sealed handicap competition, conducted in conjunction with the Gibbs Cup swimming race, was won by S. Dodgshun, who was conceded 7sec. _ bv the scratch swimmers in the handicap event.

Members of the Napier hotel concerned in service on the Duke of Gloucester during his stay there have been recipients of a tangible acknowledgment by His Royal Highness. The recognition took souvenir form. A collection in aid of the Hetii Materoa Children’s Home was taken up last evening among the section of the crowd nearest to the platform on the Read’s quay esplanade. The collection realised £1 14s, which has been conveyed to tile Cook County Women’s Guild.

The consignment of 40 stud Dorset Horn ewes and one ram of the same breed for Mr. C. C. Laver, Ngatapa, arrived at Napier from Australia by the Kaimiro yesterday morning, and were unloaded shortly ’ after the vessel berthed. The sheep were in beautiful condition on arrival. Arrangements were made to bring the sheep to Gisborne by lorry last night. One room in every hotel at which members of the official party stay during the Royal visit is a pocket edition of the always 'busy office of the Minister of Health in Wellington, Apart from the formal side of his duty as Minister in attendance on the Duke if Gloucester, the Hon. J. A. Young and his staff at each town visited have endless matters of detail to attend to. Until the afternoon of Wednesday it was not known whether or not the Duke would inspect the meet ing-house, cue last official word on tne subject, prior to the telephonic message received by the town clerk on Wednesday, being received by Miss T. Rangiuia, in reply to a letter forwarded to His Royal Highness on September 27. The Governor-General’s private secretary, Sir Cecil Day, expressed thanks to Miss, Rangiuia for the warm salutations and loyal sentiments expressed in the letter, 1 and stated further that details of the\ Duke’s visit to Gisborne had still to be completed.
