THE MONTHLY MEETING The Poverty Bay Power Board met) to-day. Present: Messrs. F. R. Ball, chairman, C. Mills, M. T. Trafford, T. Corson, J. Tombleson, C. Blackburn, A. A. Fraser, JI. 11. DeCosta. and Dr. J. C. Collins. The Civil Engineers’ Society advised that the. annual conference ivould he held in February.—lt ivas pointed out that this body was one apart from the power - engineers’ conference.—Tlie board decided to grant the engineer leave of absence to attend the Civil Engineer’s Conference at his own expense. The engineer, Mr. G. T. Cuthbert, stated that a survey for the new Jino to Buakituri had been completed, and work would be commencing early in the new year. The resolution passed at the previous meeting concerning the conversion loans was confirmed. A motion was also passed giving the bank authority in connection vritli the conversion loan proposals, and in addition a resolution ivas carried making a special rate as security for tiie new converted loans, tlie rate to he 45/12Sd in the £l, or approximately one-third of a penny, but it ivas ex; plained by the chairman that it was never anticipated that it would he necessary to collect t ho rate, ivhieh ivas arranged for merely as a security. MANAGER’S REPORT T'he manager, Mr. V. E. Sanders, reported : “Electricity sales under schedule charges for the eight months ended November 30, 1934, are as follows, the corresponding figures for last year also being given for comparison: Lighting, 1934 £16,565 (1933. 216,765); cooking and healing, £10,851 (C 11.029); ivntor heating, £2347 (£2078) ; power, £4199 (£3869) ; total, £33.962 (£33,741).” Statistical information showed that there ivere now 4975 consumers, an .increase of 170 on tlie total of 12 months ago. This year’s figures included 3855 in tlie town and 1118 in the country. Of those in tlie town, 3024 were domestic and 831 commercial consumers, and in tho country 974 domestic and 144 commercial. ENGINEER’S REPORT Tho engineer, in his report, stated:—

“Three transformers were erected during the month, and tivo were returned to the workshop for overhaul. A 0000-volt air-break .switch was installed in the line near the Matnwhero yards. By closing this switch the Muriivai feeder from Patutahi substation can readily he connected to the power-house 0000-volt system, thus forming another valuable point of inter-connection between the board’s two main supply points. The insulation of the 0000-volt river crossing between Riverside road and Harris street has been increased by substituting disctype insulators in place of the ordinary strain insulators formerly used on' the pole structures on each riverbank.’’ , n
