STORMS IN N.S.W.

HAIL CAUSES DAMAGE ORCHARDS STRIPPED SYDNEY, Dec. 10. The coastal areas of New South Wales are experiencing. stormy and unsettled weather. There was a series' of , thunderstorms in the metropolitan area to-day, with fireballs at Hyde and ■ Elizabeth Bay. Extensive damage was done by large hailstones at Roseville, Chatswood and Hornsby. The electric trains were disorganised. Reports arriving from northern suburbs indicate widespread damage to house property by hailstones as large as golf balls which broke the tiles of roofs, pierced iron sheds, smashed windows and stripped orchards in the Carlingford districts where many thousands of cases of ripening stone fruit were lost, almost ruining small growers who had piled them high against fences in their gardens.
