AUCKLAND, this day

Earl George Dabinett, 41, a laborer, it married man, was found dead in a shed at his residence yesterday. At the inquest, the evidence showed that the deceased' was addicted to drink, and after receiving relief pay on Friday week, started a bout, his wife finding a methylated spirits bottle on him yesterday. Later, a doctor was called, but found that the deceased was dead. A verdict was leturned that death was due to coma caused by drinking .methylated spirits.

The regatta will start at 6.45 p.m.. when the Gibbs Cup swimming race, conducted under the auspices of the Gisborne Surf and Swimming Club, will be contested. The course of this race is from the, William Fcttie bridge, to the Gladstone road bridge, a distance of a little over 300yds., and the contest will be under championship conditions. A scaled handicap event will be conducted in conjunction with the Gibbs Cup race. The first rowing race is set down for 7 p.m., and will initiate a series of seven events contributed to the public entertainment bv, members of tin* I’oveitv Bay and Gisborne Rowing Clubs. Tbi- Poverty Bay canoe, championship race will he another event of interest, which should draw a good field and provide exciting competition.
