SCHOOL CALF CLUBS
THE FINAL PARADES POVERTY BAY DISPLAYS The final of the district calf club' parades was held on Monday and yesterday, and a® in the case of those held) previously a great deal of interest was demonstrated by both children and par- 1 cuts. The Poverty Bay Stockbrokers’ ; Association gave valuable support, and donated a. bag of calfmeal for each school iu tins Poverty Bay district to be awarded to those calves which were outstanding ir. condition.
WHATUTTJTU There was a good attendance of l parents, particularly ladies, at the VVliatatutu parade. Judging was per-j formed by Mr. \V. Picken, Whatatutu. The parade was small, but of very good, quality, and the judge, while complimenting the pupils on their work, agreed with the agricultural instructor, Mr, R. G. Lockhart, that the handling was not so good as last year. Certificate awards were presented to the following:—Pedigree: Helen Shaw, 1. Type: Kevin McLoughlin, 1. Condition : Janet Russell, 1 ; Beryl Shawi and 'Shirley Seymour, h.c.
TE KARAKA An improvement, in quality was noticed at Te Karaka, and the August ; calves made a particularly strong sec- ! tion. The judge, Mr. Alec Cameron, ! had a difficult task. His awards were as follow: —August class.—Type : An-j drey Smithers, 1. Condition: Robert Pitcher and Ethel Tuapawa, 1; Beryl Smith and Junes Stevenson, h.c. The September class was comparatively small. A certificate was presented to Betty McKenzie. Motor transport was provided by‘Mr. Clayden, and the headmaster Mr. E. Cook, thanked the judge and Mr. Lock-'
hart for their services and interest shown. Mr. IT. Rurn addressed the pupils, especially the Maori hoys and girls, and earnestly spoke of the need to become members of the Calf Club. There was a large attendance of parents at the. parade, as well as a number of other interested onlookers.
WAIPAOA The Waipaoa School held its initial display, the pupils doing remarkably well. Awards were made as follow:— August calves. — I Type : Reg Mullooly, J. Condition: Noeline Big,noil, 1. September calves.—Type: Athol Blair, 1. Condition ; David Calder, 1. A special prize to the youngest competitor went to Ivan Breingan. There was a good attendance, especially of ladies. The judge was Mr. Alec Cameron, Pulia, who was thanked by Mr. Mullooly. The judge addressed the children, anil gave them valuable hints on leading. He also stressed the need for continuing their interest in the work. Morning tea was daintily served by Miss Cook and the senior girls.
