THE WEATHER To-day’s North Island Report. Overcast conditions were reported at Wellington this morning, but blue skies prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. Light variable breezes were general. The barometer had commenced a falling movement. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland! and Opotiki 73 degrees, Tauvanga. 74, East Cape 76. Gisborne 78. Napier 72. and Wellington 70. Moderate or smooth seas were reported everywhere. Last Night’s Forecast An anticyclone over New Zealand is moving slowly eastwards, while a deep depression is advancing from southeastern Australia on to the Tasman Sea. Winds, north-easterly to northerly prevailing, moderate at first but gradually freshening, later reaching gale force about and' south of Cook Strait. Seas rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits, rising later south of Cape EJgmont, elsewhere smooth to moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea, moderate but. increasing north-east to north winds, and rising seas. Weather' fair, warm and sultry generally, hub some isolated local rains' likely, with thunder at places, conditions becoming unsettled to-rnor-row in the western and southern portions of the South Island, with rain setting in.
